Verbsy is a language learning app that uses AI to help you practice speaking in real conversations. Instead of flashcards or multiple choice, you have actual spoken dialogues with an AI conversation partner.

Verbsy supports 23 languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, Polish, Turkish, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Czech, Indonesian, Vietnamese, and Greek. Five of them also let you choose an accent or script.

Yes. Beginners get slower, simpler conversations with more support in a language they already speak, while advanced learners get complex, free-flowing discussion. Your level isn't a setting you pick once and forget — the tutor works it out from how you actually speak, and keeps adjusting as you improve.

Verbsy is free to download, and your first 30 minutes of conversation are free. That's a one-time allowance for your whole account — not 30 minutes a day, and it's shared across every language you study. After that, Verbsy Premium unlocks an hour of tutor conversation per day, plus audio and images on your flashcards. It's an auto-renewing monthly or annual subscription; you'll see the price for your region on the App Store.

Yes, for five languages: Spanish (Spain or Latin America), Portuguese (Portugal or Brazil), French (France or Canada), English (US or UK), and Chinese (Simplified or Traditional — that one is the writing system rather than an accent). Your tutor speaks the variant you pick, and the audio on your flashcards matches it. You can change your choice any time in Settings. The remaining languages have a single standard variant.

Most AI tutor apps give you a blank chatbot every session. Verbsy remembers your name, interests, goals, and what you struggled with last time — so every conversation builds on the last. It's also designed for hands-free use: start a session, put your phone in your pocket, and practice through your headphones while you go about your day. And when you can't speak — on the train, in a meeting — your flashcards are built from words that actually came up in your conversations, not a generic word list.

You speak, Verbsy listens and answers out loud — no buttons to hold unless you prefer it that way. Corrections arrive in the flow of the conversation rather than as a list at the end. Afterwards Verbsy writes up what you covered, notes what tripped you up, and turns the new words into flashcards for later.

Verbsy is an iPhone app and needs iOS 16.1 or later. There is no iPad or Android version at the moment.

Yes. Conversations happen in real time, so the tutor needs a connection — and so does adding new flashcards. Audio and images on cards you have already reviewed are stored on your device, so those keep working offline.

Your voice data is processed in real-time to generate responses and is not stored on our servers. We take your privacy seriously — see our Privacy Policy for full details.

You can cancel your Verbsy subscription at any time through the App Store. Go to Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions, find Verbsy, and tap Cancel Subscription. You will keep access until the end of your current billing period.

Since subscriptions are processed through the App Store, refund requests must be made directly with Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the Verbsy charge, and submit your refund request.

You can view your subscription status directly in the Verbsy app. Open the app, go to Settings, and look at the Subscription section at the top. It shows your current plan, renewal date, and lets you manage your subscription.
